acan-lord
Acan Lord

The Acan Lord is one of the classic large-polyp stony corals that has been a staple in the reef aquarium hobby for years. A member of the Micromussa genus, these corals are known for their fleshy, circular polyps and vibrant colour combinations. They grow in a tidy encrusting fashion, forming a dense colony of individual polyps that create a beautiful texture in a mature reef tank.

In a home reef, Acan Lords display puffy, fleshy polyps that can inflate to several times the size of their underlying skeletons. Each polyp is distinct and can exhibit a wide range of colours, often with contrasting rings around the central mouth. Their colouration can vary from deep reds and oranges to greens, purples, and greys, often with multiple colours present on a single colony. The polyps will extend their short tentacles for feeding, usually after lights out.

For care, Acan Lords are quite adaptable, making them a good choice for those new to LPS corals. They prefer low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range, as intense light can cause the colours to fade or the tissue to recede. Water flow should be gentle and indirect, just enough to keep the polyps free of detritus without blasting them. Place them on the sandbed or a low-lying rock structure where they have room to grow. While they get a lot of energy from their symbiotic algae, they benefit from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or dedicated LPS pellets. Maintain stable alkalinity (8-10 dKH), calcium (400-450 ppm), and magnesium (1300-1400 ppm). Although not overly aggressive, it is wise to give them space from other corals to avoid any potential contact.

Because of their straightforward care and peaceful nature, Acan Lords fit well into most mixed reef systems. They are generally not bothered by fish or invertebrates, and their compact growth form means they won't overgrow their neighbours too quickly. As the colony develops, it creates a colourful, textured patch that adds a lot of visual interest to the lower regions of the aquascape.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1849/1739/files/09686890-ef1d-43b0-9507-c7056fa2dd4f-_MG_4728.png?v=1788466942
