The individual polyps are set within the stony skeleton, giving the coral a textured, brain-like surface. While the polyps are mostly retracted during the day, Favia are active nighttime feeders and will extend surprisingly long feeder tentacles into the water column after the lights go out.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor best results, provide low to moderate lighting, in the range of 75-150 PAR. A Favia will appreciate a spot on the lower to mid-level rockwork, or even on the sandbed. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep the surface clear of detritus without blasting the polyps directly. While photosynthetic, they respond well to weekly target feeding with mysis shrimp or other small meaty foods. Be sure to give them space, as Favia can produce long sweeper tentacles at night that will sting neighbouring corals. Standard reef parameters with a calcium level of 420-440, alkalinity of 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400 will support its health and growth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a home reef, the Dragon Soul Favia adds a rich patch of colour and texture.
