Often called a Meat Coral or Doughnut Coral, Cynarina lacrymalis has a single circular skeleton and a large, translucent mantle that inflates with water, giving it a soft, pillowy look. This particular specimen presents with a rich green colouration across its tissue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a home reef, Cynarina can expand to several times the size of its skeleton, especially during the day. The tissue is often so clear you can see the skeletal septa underneath. This specimen's green flesh has a subtle depth and texture, showing off the coral's characteristic bubbly surface when fully inflated. At night, or when hungry, it may extend short feeding tentacles from the centre of the polyp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor best results, Cynarina should be placed on the sandbed in a low-light, low-flow area of the aquarium. A PAR range of 50-100 is generally sufficient; high light will cause it to bleach or retract. It prefers gentle, indirect water movement that allows its polyp to expand without being battered. While photosynthetic, it's a very willing feeder and benefits from weekly target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or chopped prawn.
