mocha-ocellaris-clownfish
Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish

The Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish is a beautiful captive-bred colour variety of the ever-popular Ocellaris Clownfish. Its warm orange face gradually transitions into rich caramel, mocha and chocolate tones, complemented by three contrasting white bands and dark edging through the fins. Individual colouration can vary considerably, giving every specimen its own distinctive appearance. Hardy, personable and readily adaptable to aquarium life, the Mocha Ocellaris is an excellent choice for both newer marine keepers and experienced reef aquarists.

We recommend a stable, established marine aquarium of at least approximately 75 litres, with a larger system preferred when keeping a pair or additional fish. Provide secure rockwork, caves and calmer areas where the clownfish can establish a territory away from stronger currents. An anemone is not required, and captive-bred clownfish may instead choose to associate with corals, rockwork, equipment or a particular corner of the aquarium. When an anemone is included, the aquarium should be mature enough to meet the considerably more demanding care requirements of the anemone itself.

Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish are reef safe and will generally leave corals and ornamental invertebrates alone. They are normally peaceful community fish but can become territorial around their chosen home, particularly after forming a pair or beginning to spawn. Avoid combining them with highly aggressive fish, and do not mix several clownfish species in smaller aquariums. Two young specimens can often establish a pair naturally, with the larger and more dominant fish developing into the female.

These clownfish are enthusiastic omnivores and should receive a varied mixture of quality marine proteins and algae-based ingredients. Suitable foods currently listed by EasternMarine include Fauna Marin Soft Multi Mix and Fauna Marin Soft Protein Super Food, offered in small portions once or twice daily. EMA Marine Mega Mix Fish & Coral Food is an excellent frozen option containing a high proportion of New Zealand-sourced seafood and is also used within EMA’s own livestock systems. Fauna Marin Soft Protect may be used to provide additional nutritional and immune support following transport or during other stressful periods.

Maintain a temperature of approximately 24–26°C, salinity around 1.024–1.026 and a pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Stable salinity, good oxygenation and consistent water quality are more important than intense lighting or exceptionally strong flow. With suitable tank mates, regular feeding and a well-maintained aquarium, the Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish is a hardy, engaging and exceptionally attractive addition that can thrive in captivity for many years.
