red-and-teal-favia
Red and Teal Favia

Favia corals are a reef-keeping classic, known for their hardiness and interesting textures. For many hobbyists, a Favia is one of their first and most successful LPS corals. These corals typically grow in an encrusting or submassive form, slowly spreading over the rockwork and creating a bumpy, textured surface. This particular specimen has a deep red base colouration with contrasting teal oral discs.

The polyps of a Favia are round and fleshy, arranged in a distinctive pattern across the colony's surface. During the day, they remain relatively compact, but at night they can extend short feeding tentacles to capture food from the water column. In a home reef, watching a Favia respond to feeding is a great way to observe natural coral behaviour. Their defined structure and the clear colour separation between the red tissue and teal centres make for a nice addition to any mixed reef.

For best results, place your Favia in the lower to middle section of the aquarium where it will receive low to moderate lighting, around 75-150 PAR. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow that is strong enough to keep the surface clean without battering the polyp tissue. While photosynthetic, Favia corals benefit from regular target feeding one to two times per week with meaty foods like mysis or finely chopped seafood. Be sure to give it space from neighbouring corals, as it can extend sweeper tentacles at night that will sting other species. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1849/1739/files/8e4eca16-7677-4469-b91f-b2e2ad0eaaf7-_MG_4038.png?v=1782493660
