It's a member of the Lobophylliidae family, known for its fleshy, robust structure and vibrant colours. This one shows the deep red and green colouration that makes the species so recognizable in a reef aquarium. Symphyllia have been a staple in the hobby for years for good reason. They are relatively hardy and grow into impressive, solid colonies over time.

In a home reef, Symphyllia forms a massive, dome-shaped colony with meandering ridges and valleys. The coral's tissue is thick and fleshy, often obscuring the skeleton beneath. At night, it may extend short feeding tentacles. This specimen's colouration is a mix of deep metallic green and a rich contrasting red, a common and appealing combination for this coral. Under actinic lighting, the green pigments often become more pronounced.

For best care, place your Symphyllia on the sandbed or a low, flat piece of rockwork in a stable position. They appreciate moderate lighting, somewhere in the 100 to 200 PAR range, and moderate, indirect water flow. Too much light can cause the colours to fade, while too little flow may lead to detritus buildup. Symphyllia are aggressive corals that can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so give them at least four to six inches of space from their neighbours. They are primarily photosynthetic but will readily accept direct feedings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or chopped seafood once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.

Their solid, boulder-like shape makes Symphyllia an excellent centerpiece or anchor for the lower part of a reef scape. They provide a splash of intense colour and texture that contrasts well with branching or plating corals placed higher up in the aquarium. As long as their space requirements are met, they are peaceful residents in a well-maintained mixed reef.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1849/1739/files/74ccb4b3-157d-483d-8458-06d1546c920c-_MG_4089.png?v=1782494689
