The polyps are very fleshy and can inflate substantially with water, giving the colony a full, pillowy appearance. At night, it may extend short sweeper tentacles, so it's best to give it some space from its neighbours. The tissue of this particular colony is a consistent, deep red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor best results, place your Red Lobophyllia on the sandbed or on lower rockwork where it receives less intense illumination. It prefers low to moderate light, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range, and should be acclimated to new lighting conditions slowly. Water flow should also be gentle to moderate, just enough to keep the surface clean without buffeting the polyps directly. While photosynthetic, Lobos benefit from occasional spot feeding with meaty foods like mysis or chopped prawn. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a mature system, a Red Lobophyllia is a hardy and rewarding coral that adds a block of intense, solid colour.
