Over time, it will steadily grow over your rockwork, creating a living topography. The tissue between the corallite walls gives the coral its colour, and in the case of a splatter goniastrea, this presents as a field of fine, colourful dots against a different background hue. At night, you may see its short feeder tentacles extended from each polyp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a home reef, Goniastrea does best with moderate lighting, somewhere in the 100-200 PAR range. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow that is strong enough to keep detritus from settling on its surface. While it gets much of its energy from its zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis or specialised LPS pellets. Like many faviids, it can produce sweeper tentacles at night, so it's best to give it a few inches of space from its neighbours to avoid any territorial disputes.
