On a single colony, areas of different colour can look like they are fighting for territory. The corallites are fused, creating an undulating, maze-like surface. These corals have fleshy polyps that typically remain extended during the day. At night, they can produce surprisingly long sweeper tentacles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a home reef, caring for a War Coral is quite straightforward. They prefer moderate lighting levels, in the range of 75 to 150 PAR. Place it in the lower to middle section of the tank where it will receive moderate, indirect water flow.  enough to keep detritus from settling on its surface without blasting the polyps. While it is photosynthetic, its growth and colour benefit from regular feeding with small meaty foods. A key consideration is aggression; War Corals have potent sweeper tentacles and need to be given a clear space of several inches to avoid stinging nearby corals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs an encrusting coral, the War Coral will slowly spread across the rockwork it is placed on. This makes it an excellent choice for adding a patch of colour and texture to the lower landscape of a mixed reef.
