yellow-teal-favia-fragment
Yellow & Teal Favia Fragment

Favia have long been a staple in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their interesting textures and broad range of colours. These are a classic large polyp stony (LPS) coral, often exhibiting contrasting colours between the corallite walls and the oral discs, with this variety showing off a distinct yellow and teal combination.

Favia are an encrusting coral, meaning they grow over the rockwork, following its contours. Over time, they form a lumpy, textured colony with clearly defined circular corallites. At night, this coral will often extend short sweeper tentacles from its polyps, which it uses for both feeding and defence, so it's best to give it a little room to grow.

For best results, Favia prefer moderate lighting, in the range of 100-150 PAR. They are not overly demanding with water flow, and will do well in low to moderate, indirect currents. Placement is flexible, from the sand bed up to the mid-level of the reef, as long as the light intensity is appropriate. Favia can be fed small meaty foods like mysis or enriched brine shrimp once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters: calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm. Because of its short sweeper tentacles, leave at least a few centimetres between it and its neighbours to avoid any territorial disputes.

Their steady, encrusting growth makes Favia an excellent candidate for adding patches of colour and texture to bare rock areas in a mixed reef. They are generally peaceful as long as their neighbours are kept just out of reach of their nocturnal tentacles. Given stable conditions, they are a hardy and rewarding coral to keep long-term.

This is not a WYSIWYG listing; you'll receive a specimen of the same species with similar size and colouration to the one pictured, hand-picked for health and colour.
