Bluestripe Clownfish (Pair) is a stunning, personality-packed choice for reef aquariums, prized for its bold striping, rich contrast, and classic clownfish behaviour. As a bonded pair, they bring constant activity to the tank—hovering, “dancing” in the water column, and establishing a small home territory they’ll defend with surprising confidence. They’re a fantastic option if you want the charm of clownfish with a more unique look than the usual orange varieties.
A pair does best in a stable, mature marine or reef aquarium with plenty of rockwork and calm-to-moderate flow areas they can claim as their comfort zone. They don’t require an anemone to thrive, but they may naturally host in certain LPS corals or soft corals (and occasionally anemones in suitable systems). Provide a few sheltered spots and avoid constant re-scaping once they’ve settled, as they like routine and territory.
Feeding is easy when they’re established. Offer a mixed omnivorous diet 1–2 times daily: quality pellets and flakes as staples, supplemented with frozen mysis, brine, and finely chopped seafood for condition and colour. Variety supports better immunity and helps maintain a strong, healthy body shape—especially important for pairs as they mature.
In terms of temperament, bluestripe clownfish can be peaceful to semi-aggressive, especially as a pair once they bond and mature. They’re usually great with other reef-safe fish, but can become territorial toward new additions that venture too close to their chosen area. Introduce tankmates thoughtfully, avoid mixing with other clownfish species in smaller tanks, and give them a dedicated “corner” of the aquascape to reduce conflict.
Reef compatibility is generally excellent—they’re considered reef safe and won’t harm corals or typical reef inhabitants. Like all clowns, their hosting behaviour can sometimes irritate delicate corals if they decide to “move in,” so it’s best to keep more fragile corals positioned away from their likely territory. With good water quality, steady feeding, and sensible tankmate choices, a Bluestripe Clownfish pair makes a hardy, long-term feature fish for most reef setups.
