Mint Green Ricordea Florida Mushroom

Ricordea mushrooms are a reef aquarium classic, and for good reason. These corallimorphs, often hailing from the Caribbean, offer a unique texture and manageable growth. This variety presents the cool, clean colouration of mint green, often with a slightly different shade accenting its bumpy surface.

In the aquarium, a Ricordea polyp is a single, circular disc covered in a pattern of raised bumps. They have a central mouth and will expand or contract depending on light and flow. Over time, a single polyp will slowly divide and bud new polyps from its base, gradually forming a small, attractive cluster on the rockwork. Their surface texture is distinct from the smoother look of a Discosoma or the more tentacled appearance of a Rhodactis.

For care, Ricordea prefer lower light and gentle flow. A PAR range of 50-150 is a good target, making them suitable for the sandbed or shaded areas of the aquascape. Too much direct flow can cause them to detach and float away. While they get most of their energy from photosynthesis, they can be spot-fed small foods like mysis shrimp or pellets once a week. They are quite forgiving with water parameters but will do best in a stable system with calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium at typical reef levels. Give them a little space from other corals, as they can irritate neighbours they touch directly.

These mushrooms are an excellent choice for adding colour and texture to the lower regions of a reef tank. Because they stay compact and propagate slowly, they are less likely to overgrow an area compared to some other mushroom species. They are peaceful inhabitants suitable for a wide range of community reef setups.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
