Neon Green Toadstool

The Toadstool Leather Coral is a mainstay of the reef aquarium hobby, and for good reason. A member of the Sarcophyton genus, this soft coral is known for its hardiness and distinctive shape. This particular variety displays a vivid neon green colouration, offering a bright focal point and gentle movement to the home reef.

It grows a thick stalk that supports a mushroom-like cap, or capitulum. The surface of this cap is covered in long, feathery polyps that extend to feed, giving the coral a flowing, almost hairy appearance. When the polyps are retracted, the surface is smooth. It's normal for toadstools to periodically close up and develop a waxy film which they will shed as part of their natural growth process.

For best results, provide moderate lighting (100-250 PAR) and moderate water flow. The flow should be just enough to make the polyps sway gently and keep detritus from settling on the cap. Toadstools are quite adaptable with placement but generally do well on the sandbed or a low to mid-level rock. While mainly photosynthetic, they appreciate occasional feedings of phytoplankton or other soft coral foods. Like all corals, they require stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels. Give them ample space, as their cap will expand and can shade out neighbours below.

A well-placed toadstool coral adds a unique form of movement to the aquarium that contrasts nicely with the rigid skeletons of stony corals. Its peaceful nature and forgiving care requirements make it a suitable choice for a wide range of reef tank styles. Running activated carbon is good practice to handle any chemical compounds they may release.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
