Description

Acanthastrea lordhowensis, often called the Acan Lord, is a popular coral species among reef aquarium hobbyists. Valued for its diverse and vibrant color combinations and relatively undemanding nature, it makes a great addition to many different types of reef tanks. The large, fleshy polyps provide a unique texture and a substantial presence, even as a small colony.

This species is known for its incredible range of colors. A common and attractive variety features deep purple coloration on the outer rings of the polyps, contrasted with a bright neon green in the center. Acan Lords have an encrusting growth form, gradually covering the rockwork they are attached to. Over time, new polyps will develop around the base of the colony, slowly increasing its size and creating a colorful carpet of individual polyps.

For best results, Acan Lords should be kept under low to moderate lighting, with a PAR range between 50 and 150. They prefer low to moderate, indirect water flow, as strong currents can inhibit polyp expansion and feeding. Ideal placement is on the sandbed or the lower third of the rockwork. These corals are active feeders and benefit greatly from weekly target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized coral diets. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. While generally peaceful, they can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide a few inches of space between them and neighboring corals. Standard drip acclimation is recommended when introducing them to your aquarium.

The Acan Lord is a truly rewarding species that brings a significant splash of color and texture to the lower regions of a reef scape. Its willingness to accept food and display its vibrant polyps makes it an engaging coral for hobbyists who enjoy interactive feeding times. For those looking to add a hardy and colorful LPS coral to their collection, the Acanthastrea lordhowensis is an excellent choice.

Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
