Description
The Doughnut Coral, belonging to the Scolymia and Homophyllia genera, is a prized large polyp stony (LPS) coral among hobbyists. Known for its striking solitary polyp and intense coloration, it serves as an excellent centerpiece for many reef aquariums. Its fleshy, circular appearance is what gives it the common name "Doughnut Coral."
This coral is characterized by its single, round polyp structure that can achieve impressive sizes. The surface is fleshy and often displays vibrant, contrasting colors. The "Bleeding Apple" color variant typically features a base of vivid green accented by radiating bands or splashes of deep red, creating a compelling visual effect. The underlying skeleton has thin ridges, or septa, that add texture beneath the fleshy mantle.
For best care, Scolymia should be placed on the sandbed or on lower rockwork in an area of low to moderate water flow. Intense, direct flow can irritate the polyp and prevent it from fully expanding. They prefer lower light conditions, ideally in the 50 to 150 PAR range. While they gain nutrition from photosynthesis, these corals are active eaters and benefit from weekly target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Although not overly aggressive, they can extend short sweeper tentacles, so provide a few inches of space from neighboring corals. Slow drip acclimation is recommended when introducing it to your aquarium.
As a relatively hardy LPS species, the Doughnut Coral is a rewarding choice for enthusiasts looking to add a focal point of rich color to the lower areas of their aquascape. Its contained growth and straightforward needs make it a manageable and long-lasting addition to a stable reef environment.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
