Description

This striking Open Brain coral showcases a captivating blend of greens, blues, and purples, creating a vibrant focal point for any reef aquarium. Its fleshy, convoluted polyps create an intricate texture and form, expanding beautifully in the right conditions. This particular specimen is WYSIWYG, meaning you receive the exact coral pictured, ensuring its unique coloration and shape will be a stunning addition to your tank.

Open Brain corals thrive under moderate to low PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) lighting, typically between 50-150 PAR. Too much light can cause bleaching, while too little can lead to dull coloration and recession. Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal; avoid direct, strong currents that can damage its delicate polyps. Place this coral on a sandy substrate or securely on a rock ledge, ensuring ample space around it as it can extend sweeper tentacles at night. Maintain stable water parameters: temperature 75-79°F, salinity 1.024-1.026, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, calcium 400-450 ppm, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.

While primarily photosynthetic, benefiting from the symbiotic algae within its tissues, Open Brain corals also appreciate supplemental feeding. Offer finely minced meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized coral foods a few times a week, especially in the evening when its feeding tentacles are extended. Target feeding directly to the coral's mouth will encourage faster growth and enhanced coloration. Monitor water quality after feeding to prevent nutrient spikes.

Open Brain corals are generally peaceful but can extend sweeper tentacles up to several inches at night, capable of stinging neighboring corals. Provide adequate spacing to prevent aggression. Acclimation should be slow and steady, using a drip acclimation method over at least an hour to help the coral adjust to your tank's water parameters. Observe the coral closely for the first few days for signs of stress, such as tissue recession or failure to expand.

Adding this Open Brain coral to your reef tank will provide a stunning display of color and form, offering an engaging visual element. Its relatively easy care requirements make it a rewarding choice for both intermediate and experienced reef keepers. With proper care, this coral will flourish, becoming a vibrant and dynamic inhabitant of your underwater world.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
