Description
Goniopora, commonly known as the flowerpot coral, is a unique LPS species recognized for its exceptionally long and mobile polyps. For years, the genus had a reputation for being challenging to keep long-term. However, a better understanding of their specific needs, particularly around feeding, has led to much greater success in the home aquarium. This variety presents a uniform, deep red colouration.
The main appeal of Goniopora is the constant, gentle movement of its polyps, which extend from a round or massive base. These polyps, each ending in a small, distinct mouth, create a living bouquet that sways with the water's current. In this red specimen, the colour is consistent through the entire polyp, offering a solid patch of rich colour that contrasts well with other corals in a mixed reef.
Successful Goniopora husbandry hinges on a few key details. They require low to moderate, indirect water flowโenough to gently move the polyps and keep the base clean, but not so strong that it prevents full extension. Placement should be in a low to mid-level area of the tank with moderate lighting, typically in the 75-150 PAR range, as they are sensitive to overly intense light. While photosynthetic, they are heavy feeders and benefit greatly from being target-fed several times a week with amino acids and small-particle coral foods. Keep water parameters stable (Ca 420-440, Alk 8-9 dKH, Mg 1300-1400) and allow plenty of room for their long polyps to extend without touching other corals.
In a well-maintained reef, the fluid motion of a Goniopora adds a dynamic element that few other corals can replicate. It serves as a great focal point and brings a sense of life and activity to the aquascape.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
