Description
The Scolymia, or Button Coral, is a classic large-polyp stony coral that has been a favourite in the hobby for years. Scolymia australis is known for its single, large, fleshy polyp which can display a huge range of colours and patterns. This particular colour morph, the "Reverse Bleeding Apple", has a distinct look that makes it a real focal point in the right setting.
This morph features a vibrant green central disc that transitions to a deep red colouration around the outer rim. The tissue is thick and fleshy, inflating substantially under ideal conditions. At night, it may extend short feeding tentacles from its central mouth. It's a solitary coral, meaning the entire structure is one single animal.
For care, a Scolymia prefers the sandbed or a low-lying rock, out of direct, high-intensity light. A PAR range of 75-150 is a good target. It requires low, indirect water flow to allow its polyp to fully expand without being damaged. While photosynthetic, it does very well with supplemental feedings of meaty foods like mysis or specialised LPS pellets once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm. Though not overly aggressive, it's best to give it a few inches of space from its neighbours to avoid any potential conflict.
A well-placed Scolymia can anchor the foreground of a mixed reef tank. Their low light and flow requirements make them a good choice for areas where more demanding corals might not thrive. As a slow grower, it's a long-term addition to a stable reef environment that won't quickly overgrow its welcome.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
