Description

The Branching Hammer Coral, a member of the Fimbriaphyllia genus, is a long-standing favorite in the reef aquarium hobby. Valued for the constant, gentle swaying motion of its polyps, this large polyp stony (LPS) coral introduces a unique sense of life and movement to any reef tank, making it a captivating centerpiece.

This species grows a branching, tree-like calcium carbonate skeleton. Each branch is topped with large, fleshy polyps that inflate with water and terminate in a distinctive T-shape, resembling a hammer or anchor. The coloration of the tentacles can vary, but typically presents as a base of brownish-tan or green, with contrasting tips that can be cream, green, or gold-hued. The movement of these polyps in the current is one of its most desirable features.

A dedicated care routine is necessary for the Branching Hammer Coral to thrive. It prefers low to moderate lighting conditions, ideally within a 75-150 PAR range. Water flow should be gentle and indirect, enough to make the polyps sway without causing them to retract or be damaged. Ideal placement is in the middle to lower sections of the tank on the rockwork, with ample space provided. While photosynthetic, its health and growth benefit from target feeding meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp once or twice per week. Keep water parameters stable with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Because it has long and potent sweeper tentacles, leave at least six inches of space between it and any neighboring corals to prevent chemical warfare. Standard drip acclimation is the best practice for introduction.

The Branching Hammer Coral is a rewarding species for both new and experienced hobbyists. Its active presence and steady growth habit make it a satisfying addition that brings a dynamic element to the aquascape, contrasting beautifully with more static corals.

Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
