Description

The Acan Echinata is a distinctive large-polyp stony coral, a classic in the reef aquarium hobby. Belonging to the Acanthastrea genus, it's known for its fleshy polyps and wide array of colour combinations, setting it apart from its more common cousin, the Acan Lord. Its surface has a unique texture that catches the light and adds interest to any reef scape.

This species grows in an encrusting fashion, gradually spreading across rock surfaces. During the day, its polyps are inflated and fleshy, giving the colony a lumpy, textured look. In the wild, it forms flattened colonies, and this growth pattern continues in a home reef. Colouration is highly variable, ranging from deep greens and reds to purples and oranges, often with differently coloured oral discs or rims that make each polyp stand out.

For best health, Acan Echinata should be placed in an area of low to moderate water flow and light. A PAR level between 75 and 150 is a good target. Placement on the sandbed or on lower rockwork is ideal to prevent bleaching from intense lighting. This coral has a strong feeding response and benefits from weekly target feeding with small, meaty foods. While it gets much of its energy from its zooxanthellae, feeding promotes faster growth and deeper colouration. It can be aggressive towards nearby corals, extending sweeper tentacles at night, so provide a few inches of space between it and its neighbours. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.

As a relatively hardy and rewarding LPS coral, the Acan Echinata is a great choice for adding texture and colour to the lower regions of a well-maintained reef. The specimen you receive will be a healthy, hand-picked frag of the same species shown, similar in size and colouration to the representative photo.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
