Acan Lord

Acan Lords, or Micromussa lordhowensis, are among the most popular and iconic LPS corals in the reefing hobby. Their vibrant colours and relatively easy care make them a fantastic choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. This piece measures approximately 7cm across its widest point. They hail from the Indo-Pacific, where they form encrusting colonies on rocky substrates. This specific species, Micromussa lordhowensis, is named for Lord Howe Island, though they are found across a much wider range. LPS that truly draws the eye and rewards careful husbandry. We find them to be one of the most colourful and interesting corals we carry. Expect a range of warm, earthy tones, often with brighter contrasting centres. They are stunning. Their fleshy polyps expand during the day, showing off intricate patterns and textures. At night, their sweeper tentacles may emerge, so careful placement is key. Acan Lords do best under moderate lighting, around 75-150 PAR, and moderate, indirect water flow. They are typically placed in the lower to middle sections of the rockwork. While they do get most of their nutrition from photosynthetic zooxanthellae, they are enthusiastic feeders and will readily accept small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods. Target feeding a few times a week will enhance growth and coloration. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1450 ppm. They are generally peaceful but should be given enough space from other corals, as their sweeper tentacles can sting. When introducing a new Acan Lord, a slow acclimation process helps them adjust to your tank conditions. Acan Lords integrate beautifully into a mixed reef, providing a strong focal point with their substantial, colourful polyps. They offer a striking contrast to branching SPS or more delicate soft corals. Their encrusting growth habit means they will slowly spread across the rockwork, forming impressive colonies over time.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
