Acan Lord

Acanthastrea lordhowensis, commonly known as Acan Lord, is a popular LPS coral that brings a vibrant splash of colour and character to many reef aquariums. These corals are cherished for their striking patterns and relatively straightforward care requirements, making them a fantastic choice for both novice and experienced reef keepers. This piece measures approximately 5cm.

Each polyp of an Acan Lord displays intricate patterns and a textured surface. The polyps are typically plump and fleshy, extending to feed and retracting slightly if disturbed. Their coloration tends to be rich and varied, with many specimens exhibiting a beautiful blend of hues that make each colony unique.

Care for Acan Lord corals is generally considered moderate. They thrive under moderate lighting, ideally around 75-150 PAR, and prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows their polyps to extend fully without being blasted. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork is usually suitable. While they host zooxanthellae for most of their energy, target feeding with finely minced meaty foods or dedicated coral foods a few times a week will promote faster growth and better colouration. Stable water parameters are key: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. Acan Lords can be somewhat aggressive with sweeper tentacles at night, so ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals. Acclimation should be slow and gentle, allowing them to adjust to the new tank environment over several hours.

Acan Lords are often selected for their ability to add a focal point of intense colour and fascinating texture to a mixed reef. They are relatively compact and can be placed in various tank layouts to great effect, contributing significantly to the overall aesthetic appeal.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
