Acan Lord

Acanthastrea lordhowensis, commonly known as Acan Lord, holds a revered place in the reef keeping hobby. These LPS corals are cherished for their striking patterns and ability to develop vibrant colouration under proper care. They are generally hardy and can make a fantastic addition for both new and experienced aquarists looking to add a focal point to their tank. This piece measures approximately 7cm. This particular specimen is ready for its new home. Acan Lords are known for their fleshy polyps that inflate during the day, displaying a textured surface. The colouration of these corals can be quite diverse, often showing intricate mixes of hues that contrast beautifully, creating a visual feast in the aquarium. Their growth form is typically encrusting, slowly spreading over the rockwork or substrate. For optimal health, Acan Lords appreciate moderate lighting, ideally around 50-100 PAR. Flow should be moderate and indirect to prevent tissue damage while still ensuring detritus is removed. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-rockwork is usually best. They are enthusiastic feeders and benefit from target feeding small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week, though they can also absorb nutrients from the water column. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium at 420-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and Magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. Acan Lords can be aggressive, so ensure adequate space, at least a few inches, from neighbouring corals to prevent stinging. Acclimation should be gradual, especially when introducing them to new light conditions. These corals are excellent for creating a diverse bottom scape or adding patches of rich colour to the lower regions of a mixed reef aquarium.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
