Acan Lord

Acan Lords, Acanthastrea lordhowensis, are among the most popular and recognisable LPS corals in the reef aquarium hobby. Their distinctive, relatively large polyps and vibrant patterns make them a centrepiece in many aquariums. These corals are cherished for their beauty and generally moderate care requirements, making them suitable for a range of reef keepers. They originate from the Indo-Pacific, where they form encrusting colonies on rocky substrates. This specific piece measures approximately 9cm. An Acan Lord colony typically grows as an encrusting plate, forming a mosaic of individual, fleshy polyps. Each polyp possesses its own skeletal cup, or corallite, which gives the coral its characteristic textured appearance. The colouration of Acan Lords is often a beautiful blend, showcasing patterns that can appear as rings, stripes, or splashes across their fleshy polyps. They are primarily nocturnal feeders, extending their tentacles at night to capture microscopic food, but their vibrant daytime appearance is what truly captivates. For optimal health, Acan Lords thrive under moderate lighting, with a PAR range of 75-150 being ideal. Moderate, indirect flow is preferred; too much direct flow can irritate the polyps and prevent them from extending fully. They are best placed in the lower to mid sections of the aquarium, often on the sandbed or securely on rockwork, where they can encrust without being overshadowed. Feeding once or twice a week with finely chopped meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp or copepods, will promote growth and maintain vibrant colours. Stable water parameters are crucial: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. While not overtly aggressive, Acan Lords can sting neighbouring corals with sweeper tentacles, so adequate spacing from other corals is recommended. Acclimation should be slow and gradual, especially regarding light, to prevent shock. Acan Lords are excellent candidates for a mixed reef tank, providing a burst of colour and interesting texture on the sandbed or lower rockwork. Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
