Staghorn corals are a classic in the SPS (Small Polyp Stony) coral world, known for their rapid growth and architectural shapes. They form a significant part of healthy reef ecosystems, offering shelter and structure. This piece measures approximately 7cm. Given proper conditions, this coral can quickly become a large, impressive colony in a mature reef aquarium.

These corals develop branching structures reminiscent of deer antlers, hence their common name. The polyps are tiny, extending to capture food particles from the water column. The overall colouration will be a natural coral hue, which can deepen and become more vibrant under stable reef parameters and good lighting.

To thrive, Staghorn corals require high PAR lighting, typically between 250-450 PAR. Strong, turbulent water flow is essential to keep their branches clean and deliver food and nutrients, and they should be placed in the upper half of the aquarium. While primarily photosynthetic, supplemental feeding with fine coral foods can encourage faster growth. Maintain stable water chemistry: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm, and Salinity 1.025. Ensure adequate spacing from other corals, especially aggressive LPS, as they are not overly aggressive but can be stung. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly to new lighting.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
