Australian Mint Gold Torch

Torch corals, known scientifically as Euphyllia glabrescens, are a popular Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral among reef aquarists. They are sought after for the unique sense of movement their long, flowing tentacles bring to a reef tank, creating a dynamic focal point that emulates the look of a sea anemone while being a colonial stony coral.

This coral is characterized by its long, fleshy polyps that extend from a branching calcified base. Each polyp ends in a rounded tip, which can often have a contrasting color. The tentacles themselves are typically a shade of yellow or gold, swaying gracefully in the water current. This growth form allows it to create a significant presence in the aquarium as it grows into a larger colony.

For proper care, a Torch Coral requires moderate lighting, ideally in the 100-250 PAR range, and moderate, indirect water flow that allows the tentacles to move freely without being blasted. It should be placed in the lower to middle section of the tank with ample space. While it can derive some nutrition from its symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets. Maintain stable water parameters, including Calcium between 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. It is highly aggressive and possesses long sweeper tentacles that can damage or kill neighboring corals, so provide at least 6-8 inches of space between it and other sessile invertebrates. Acclimate slowly and start in a lower-light area before moving to its final position.

The Torch Coral is a worthwhile addition for its captivating motion. Few corals can add the same level of graceful activity to a reef aquarium, making it a favorite for those looking to add a showpiece coral to their system.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
