Description

Hammer corals, from the Fimbriaphyllia genus, are a cornerstone of the LPS world. These corals are widely appreciated for the constant, gentle movement their polyps provide in a reef aquarium. This particular colour morph has tentacles with a rich gold colouration, often set against a base with deep blue or purple hues, making the heads distinct.

The common name comes from the shape of its large, fleshy polyps, which resemble hammers or anchors. During the day, these polyps extend and sway in the current, creating a dynamic visual. At night, they retract into the coral's branching skeleton. The intensity and exact shade of the gold and blue tones can vary slightly depending on the specific lighting spectrum and intensity they are kept under.

For best results, a hammer coral needs moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75 to 150 PAR range, along with moderate, indirect water flow. This allows the polyps to move freely without being damaged or forced to stay retracted. They are aggressive corals, known to send out long sweeper tentacles at night that can sting their neighbours. It's important to place them on the rockwork with plenty of space to grow and avoid contact with other species. While photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional feedings of mysis or other small, meaty foods. Maintain stable water parameters with Calcium around 420-440ppm, Alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and Magnesium between 1300-1400.

In a home reef, a hammer coral adds a unique sense of motion that contrasts beautifully with more static corals. It can serve as a focal point in an LPS-dominated system or add texture and movement to a mixed reef, as long as its space requirements are respected. It's a hardy LPS coral that, once settled, is a rewarding addition for the long term.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
