Description
The Blue Maxima Clam is a stunning addition to any reef aquarium, known for its vibrant blue mantle adorned with intricate patterns. This clam is sessile, attaching itself to rockwork with byssal threads. Its eye-catching coloration and unique ruffled mantle edges make it a focal point in any display.
Maxima Clams require moderate to high PAR lighting (200-400 PAR) to thrive, as they are primarily photosynthetic. Moderate to high flow is also essential to bring food and remove waste, but avoid direct, laminar flow that can cause mantle recession. Place the clam on stable rockwork, allowing its byssal threads to attach naturally. Ensure the foot is not obstructed or damaged during placement.
Optimal water parameters are crucial for the health of Maxima Clams. Maintain stable levels of alkalinity (7-9 dKH), calcium (400-450 ppm), and magnesium (1300-1400 ppm) to support healthy shell growth. While primarily photosynthetic, smaller clams (under 5cm) may benefit from occasional phytoplankton spot feeding, though it is not strictly necessary for larger, well-lit specimens.
Careful acclimation is vital for clams. Use a drip acclimation method over several hours to slowly equalize water parameters. Once introduced, monitor for signs of stress such as gaping or prolonged mantle retraction. It is also important to regularly check for pyramidellid snails, which are parasitic pests that prey on clams. These can be removed manually or by introducing certain wrasse species.
With proper lighting, flow, and water chemistry, this Blue Maxima Clam will flourish and provide years of beauty and elegance to your reef aquarium.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
