Description

Staghorn Acropora are a cornerstone of the SPS reef aquarium, representing one of the most recognisable growth forms in the genus. Their classic branching structure has made them a long-time favourite for hobbyists looking to create a dynamic, high-energy reef. This specimen presents with the distinct blue colouration that makes certain Acropora varieties stand out.

Developing the open, arborescent skeleton that gives it its name, the Blue Staghorn grows with a purpose. Under the right lighting, the branches exhibit a deep blue that can appear more intense or subtle depending on the spectrum and water chemistry. The pointed growing tips, or axial corallites, are often a lighter shade of blue or even white, indicating active growth. Polyp extension is typically minimal, giving the colony a clean, textured look.

Successful care for any Acropora hinges on stability. This Blue Staghorn requires high light levels, typically in the 250-450 PAR range, along with strong, randomised water flow. Position it in the mid to upper regions of the tank where it can receive adequate light and flow. While it gets most of its energy from photosynthesis, feeding with fine-particle SPS foods can improve vitality. Maintain calcium between 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium from 1300-1400 ppm. It's important to provide ample space for it to grow without touching other corals. Upon arrival, acclimate slowly and introduce it to high light gradually.

In a dedicated SPS system, a Blue Staghorn colony adds an architectural element that few other corals can match. Its branching network creates a natural habitat for small fish and provides a sense of scale and maturity to the aquascape. It is a rewarding coral to grow and watch as it develops into a centrepiece.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
