Description
The Torch Coral, Euphyllia glabrescens, is a long-time favorite in the reef aquarium hobby, known for the constant, gentle motion it brings to a tank. Its long, flowing tentacles resemble those of a sea anemone, but it is a true stony coral that creates a calcified skeleton. This movement adds a dynamic element that few other corals can match, making it a captivating centerpiece.
This coral exhibits the classic torch morphology, with a branching stony base from which individual polyps arise. Each polyp is equipped with long, flowing tentacles that stay extended throughout the day. The coloration associated with the Brass Monkey name typically involves tentacles with a distinctive golden or brassy hue, often complemented by differently colored tips, creating an elegant and eye-catching appearance in the aquarium.
For best care, the Torch Coral should be placed in the lower to middle third of the aquarium on the rockwork. It requires low to moderate, indirect water flow that is just strong enough to make the tentacles sway gently without being blasted. Intense, direct flow can prevent the coral from extending fully or cause tissue damage. It prefers moderate lighting levels, typically in the 75-150 PAR range. While photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1300-1450 ppm. Be aware that this species is aggressive and can extend long sweeper tentacles at night that will sting and damage neighboring corals, so provide at least six to eight inches of space around it. Acclimate slowly using a drip method to help it adjust to your tank's conditions.
The Torch Coral is a rewarding species for many hobbyists, offering a unique combination of color and motion. Its presence can transform a static rockscape into a living, moving reef scene, making it a worthwhile addition for those prepared to meet its specific placement and flow needs.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
