Description
Description
Leptastrea is an encrusting LPS coral that brings a unique texture and colour pattern to the home reef. Often called a "wrinkle coral" for its distinct bumpy surface, it grows by spreading a thin, contoured layer over rockwork. The Burning Embers variant is known for its intense colouration, with fiery oral discs set against a dark, contrasting base. It's a durable species that adds a different kind of character compared to branching or fleshy corals.
Under aquarium lighting, the top surface develops a lumpy, irregular appearance as it grows over the rock. The polyps themselves are small and housed within the stony base, giving the whole coral a solid, textured look. In this variant, the oral discs glow with a deep orange or red, while the surrounding tissue is often a much darker colour, creating the effect of glowing embers. At night, it can extend surprisingly long sweeper tentacles from its perimeter.
The key to keeping Leptastrea is stable water quality and correct placement. It prefers lower to moderate lighting conditions, around 75 to 150 PAR, as intense light can cause the colours to fade. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep the surface clean of detritus without blasting the tissue. It benefits from occasional feedings of micro-crustaceans or other LPS foods. Because of its sweeper tentacles, it's important to give it space, leaving a few inches between it and any neighboring corals to prevent nightly warfare.
Leptastrea corals are excellent for filling in lower and mid-level areas of the reef that might not be suitable for high-light SPS. Its slow and steady growth makes it manageable for the long term, adding colour and a rugged texture without the risk of it quickly overgrowing an area. This predictable nature makes it a reliable choice for adding a splash of contained colour to a mixed reef.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
