Candy Cane Coral

Candy Cane Corals, also known as Trumpet Corals, are a popular choice for both new and experienced reef keepers due to their striking appearance and relatively straightforward care. They are a classic addition to a mixed reef aquarium, providing an appealing contrast to other coral types. This piece measures approximately 3-4 polyps. These corals are typically found in a range of bright, often striped, colour combinations. They are not demanding and settle into a new environment well. Their common name reflects their vibrant and often striped appearance. Their polyps have a distinctive tubular shape, often with a contrasting rim around the opening, which gives them a soft, inviting look. They typically extend well during the day and retract at night or if disturbed. Candy Cane Corals thrive under moderate lighting conditions, typically around 100-200 PAR, and prefer moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling without blasting their polyps. Ideal placement is on the sandbed or lower to mid-rockwork, where they have room to expand without touching other corals. They are primarily photosynthetic but will benefit from occasional feeding of small meaty foods like brine shrimp or mysis shrimp. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. While generally peaceful, ensure adequate spacing from aggressive corals to prevent stinging. Acclimate slowly, particularly to new lighting and water parameters.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
