Description

Chili Pepper Montipora is a popular variety of encrusting SPS coral, sought after for its intense coloration and plating growth habit. This species is an excellent choice for reef aquarists looking to add a splash of vibrant color and a unique structural element to their rockwork. As a member of the Montipora genus, it is one of the more accessible small-polyp stony corals.

This coral features a rich, deep red or orange base that encrusts over surfaces, often developing into thin, shelf-like plates as it matures. The surface is dotted with small, contrasting polyps that are typically a bright green or chartreuse color, giving it the signature "Chili Pepper" look. Its growth pattern adds horizontal dimension to the aquascape.

For optimal health and coloration, Chili Pepper Montipora requires care typical of most SPS corals. It thrives under moderate to high lighting, with a recommended PAR range of 250-450. Water flow should be strong and indirect, providing a chaotic pattern to keep the coral's surface clean and deliver nutrients. Ideal placement is on the rockwork in the middle to upper third of the aquarium where it can receive ample light and has room to grow outwards. While primarily photosynthetic, its growth can be enhanced by broadcast feeding with small particle foods. Maintain stable water parameters with Calcium at 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium between 1300-1450 ppm. This coral is peaceful, but you should provide several inches of space from other corals to allow it room to encrust and plate out without contact. Acclimate slowly using a drip method to prevent shock.

Chili Pepper Montipora is a rewarding coral for the intermediate SPS keeper. Its relatively fast growth rate and striking red and green coloration make it a worthwhile addition that brings classic SPS beauty to a mature reef tank.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
