Double Mouth Warpaint Scolymia

The Double Mouth Warpaint Scolymia is a highly sought-after LPS coral, prized by many reef keepers for its striking appearance and relatively straightforward care. Its distinctive "double mouth" adds to its unique visual appeal, making it a focal point in any mixed reef aquarium. This piece measures approximately 7cm. This coral brings vibrant character to the lower reaches of a display. Its striking patterns and colours are a testament to its popularity. Its relatively large, fleshy polyps make it an attractive and dynamic addition. The "double mouth" refers to a growth form where the coral develops two distinct oral openings, contributing to its intricate visual texture. This growth often leads to unique colour divisions as well. Scolymia thrive under moderate to low lighting, ideally 50-100 PAR. Placement on the sandbed or securely on lower rockwork provides a stable base. Gentle, indirect flow is preferred, allowing the coral to extend its polyps fully without being blasted. While photosynthetic, target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week will enhance growth and colouration. Consistent water parameters are key, with calcium at 400-440 ppm, alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Leave ample space around the Scolymia as it can sting neighbouring corals with its sweepers, especially at night. Acclimate slowly using a drip method to help it adjust to its new environment. Many reef keepers enjoy creating a "Scoly garden" on the sandbed, arranging different colour morphs together to create a stunning display. Their unique patterns and colour combinations make each specimen a living work of art, offering endless fascination.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
