Description
Description
Favia has been a cornerstone of the reef aquarium hobby for decades. While the scientific classifications have shifted over the years, the common name "Favia" remains attached to these beautiful and durable LPS corals. The Dragon Soul morph is known for its particularly deep, rich base colour contrasted by vividly coloured oral discs, creating a striking pattern across the colony.
The colony grows in an encrusting, submassive form, gradually covering the rockwork and forming a lumpy, textured shape. Each polyp resides in its own corallite, giving the surface a distinct, almost geometric appearance. At night, or when it smells food in the water, Favia will extend short, translucent feeding tentacles. This behaviour is always interesting to watch.
In a home reef, Favia is quite forgiving. It prefers moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75 to 150 PAR range, making it a good candidate for the lower to middle sections of the tank. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, just enough to keep the coral's surface clear of detritus without preventing the polyps from extending to feed. It is a capable feeder and will benefit from occasional offerings of small meaty foods like mysis or enriched brine shrimp. Be sure to give it space, as it can produce sweeper tentacles that may damage neighbouring corals. Stable water parameters are key, with calcium around 420-440 ppm and alkalinity at 8-9 dKH.
Favia is an excellent choice for adding texture and colour to bare rockwork. Its relatively slow, predictable encrusting growth makes it easy to manage long-term. It won't take over the tank overnight, but it will steadily colonise the space it's given, creating a living piece of the reef structure.
This is not a WYSIWYG listing; you'll receive a specimen of the same species with similar size and colouration to the one pictured, hand-picked for health and colour.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
