Blue Tipped Elegance Coral

Elegance Corals, Catalaphyllia jardinei, are truly iconic LPS corals, and this specimen measures approximately 16cm. These corals are cherished in the hobby for their distinctive swaying tentacles and vibrant appearance, making them a captivating centrepiece in many reef aquariums. They are a classic choice for hobbyists looking for a visually dynamic and engaging coral. Elegance Corals are native to the Indo-Pacific, often found in sheltered lagoons and on reef slopes. They are known for their ability to thrive with proper care, adding a touch of natural elegance to a marine display. Though once prolific, their numbers have declined in the wild, underscoring the importance of responsible aquaculture practices for the long-term health of the hobby. This piece represents a healthy and established colony that will continue to bring life to a reef aquarium for many years to come. Growth form is often a single large polyp with a hard skeletal base. The tentacles are long and flowing, typically with a contrasting coloured tip. These tentacles extend during the day, creating a mesmerising display as they gently undulate with the water flow. The body of the coral can also show subtle colour variations. These corals are primarily photosynthetic, relying on their symbiotic zooxanthellae for nutrition. They will also readily accept small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp when fed directly, which can help promote faster growth and overall health. They can be placed on the sand bed or securely attached to the lower rockwork in an established reef tank. They prefer moderate to low lighting, around 75-150 PAR, and gentle, indirect water flow. Strong, direct flow can cause tissue recession. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. Elegance Corals can be aggressive, extending long sweeper tentacles, especially at night. Provide ample space, at least 15cm, between them and other corals to prevent stinging. Acclimation should be slow and gradual to allow the coral to adjust to its new environment.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
