Forest Green Hammer Coral

Hammer corals (Euphyllia ancora) are a well-loved LPS coral, known for their swaying polyps and vibrant colours. This particular Forest Green Hammer Coral is a beautiful example, measuring approximately 9cm across, making it a prominent feature in a mixed reef aquarium. Their relative ease of care and captivating movement contribute to their enduring popularity among reef keepers of all experience levels.

This specimen exhibits a forest green colouration throughout its polyps, with the characteristic hammer-shaped tips that give the coral its common name. The polyps extend from a hard, branching skeleton and gently sway in the water column, creating a mesmerising display. Like many Euphyllia species, it has long, fleshy tentacles that are particularly prominent when fully extended.

To thrive, the Forest Green Hammer Coral requires moderate lighting, ideally around 100-150 PAR. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage and allow its polyps to expand fully. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, supplemental feeding with fine particulate foods or marine snow a few times a week can enhance growth and vitality. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Hammer corals are semi-aggressive and possess potent stinging tentacles, so ensure ample spacing from other corals to prevent chemical warfare or direct stinging.

Its striking forest green hue offers a lovely contrast against brighter or more subtle coral colours, adding depth and visual interest to a reef aquascape.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
