Gold & Green Scolymia

Scolymia are a fascinating and popular group of LPS corals in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their solitary, disc-like growth and vibrant colouration. These single-polyp corals make a striking focal point in any reef system, often chosen for their unique patterns and relatively robust nature.

This specimen of Gold & Green Scolymia displays a captivating blend of a rich gold centre with a contrasting green rim. The coral typically grows as a circular or oval disc, and its large, fleshy polyp expands to cover its skeletal base, revealing intricate patterns and a textured surface. This piece measures approximately 5cm, making it a good size to appreciate its individual beauty.

Scolymia thrive under moderate lighting, ideally between 75-150 PAR, and prefer low to moderate indirect flow to keep detritus from settling without irritating the polyp. They should be placed securely on the sand bed or a lower rock shelf, ensuring enough space as they can be aggressive towards neighbouring corals. Regular feeding with meaty foods such as mysis, brine shrimp, or specialized coral foods, once or twice a week, is beneficial. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly to new lighting conditions.

Gold & Green Scolymia can add a luxurious touch to a mixed reef, complementing other corals without overpowering them, yet remaining distinct enough to draw the eye.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
