Description

Goniastrea is one of the classic large-polyp stony corals, a familiar sight in reef aquariums for decades. Its encrusting or boulder-like growth forms a solid base covered in a surface of individual corallites, each housing a polyp. These corals are known for their hardiness and steady growth once established in a stable system. Colours can range widely, often in earthy tones like green, brown, and cream, sometimes with contrasting oral discs.

The surface of a Goniastrea colony has a neat, almost geometric appearance. The corallites are fused together, creating a continuous landscape across the rockwork. At night, its sweeper tentacles can extend, so it's a good neighbour to some but not all corals. During the day, the polyps are generally retracted, showing off the colony's base colouration and structure.

For care, Goniastrea is quite adaptable. It prefers moderate lighting, somewhere in the 100-200 PAR range is a good target. Too much light can cause it to lose colour. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep the surface clean without blasting the tissue. Placement is flexible, from the sandbed to mid-level on the rockwork, as long as its light and flow needs are met. While photosynthetic, it will benefit from occasional target feeding of LPS foods. Like other stony corals, it requires stable alkalinity (8-9 dKH), calcium (420-440 ppm), and magnesium (1300-1400 ppm). Be sure to give it space, as its sweepers can be potent against more peaceful neighbours.

This coral is a great choice for adding texture and structure to a mixed reef. Its steady, encrusting growth is predictable, and it won.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
