Goniopora, often called Flowerpot Coral or Daisy Coral, is a popular and instantly recognisable large polyp stony coral in the reef aquarium hobby. Known for its distinct long, flowing polyps, it brings a dynamic sense of movement to a reef system. This piece measures approximately 10cm. It is a captivating addition for those seeking to add visual interest with its soft, swaying appearance. Its general colouration is muted, allowing it to blend naturally into a diverse coral display. This specimen will be a focal point with its unique structure and polyp extension. It is a long-term inhabitant that becomes a true centrepiece over time. In a well-established system, Goniopora can flourish into a substantial colony. Its flowing polyps extend significantly during the day, creating an almost anemone-like appearance. At night, the polyps retract, revealing the underlying stony skeleton. Goniopora polyps typically have 24 tentacles, a distinguishing feature for identification. Optimal care for Goniopora involves moderate to high PAR lighting, around 150-250 PAR. It appreciates moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on its polyps and encourage polyp extension without causing physical damage. Placement on a lower to mid-level rock work shelf is generally ideal, allowing ample space for its polyps to extend fully. While Goniopora contains zooxanthellae for nutrition, target feeding with fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, coral foods, or marine snow is highly beneficial and encourages robust growth and health. Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and Magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. Though generally peaceful, provide adequate spacing from other corals, as its extended polyps can irritate neighbours. Acclimation should be gradual, especially with lighting changes.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
