Description

The Acan Lord, Acanthastrea lordhowensis, is a long-standing favourite in the reef aquarium hobby. These corals are known for their large, fleshy polyps and wide range of colours. As an LPS coral, they offer a great combination of bright colour and visible daily changes in polyp extension, making them an engaging animal to keep. This particular specimen shows the classic green colouration common to the species.

Acan Lords grow in an encrusting or plating fashion, with individual circular polyps that eventually merge into a dense colony. By day, their flesh is puffy and circular. At night or when food is in the water, they may extend short feeding tentacles from the centre of each polyp. The green colouration can vary from deep forest green to a brighter lime, often with contrasting or striped patterns on the oral disc.

For care, Acan Lords prefer lower light levels, somewhere in the 50 to 150 PAR range, making them ideal for the sandbed or shaded areas of lower rockwork. They do not appreciate strong, direct water flow; moderate, indirect flow is best to keep their surfaces clean without causing the polyps to retract. While photosynthetic, they respond well to direct feeding once or twice a week with small meaty foods like mysis or specialised LPS pellets. Keep standard reef parameters stable: alkalinity between 8-11 dKH, calcium at 420-440 ppm, and magnesium around 1300-1400. Although not overly aggressive, they can extend sweeper tentacles a few centimetres, so it is wise to give them some space.

Over time, an Acan Lord colony becomes a fixture in a mature reef. Their slow, predictable growth and tolerance of a wide range of conditions make them suitable for many different tank styles, from dedicated LPS systems to mixed reefs. They are a solid choice for adding a patch of rich colour and texture to the lower third of the aquascape.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
