Green Acan Lord

Acanthastrea lordhowensis, commonly known as Acan Lord, is a popular and sought-after large polyp stony (LPS) coral in the reef keeping hobby. Known for its vibrant colouration and relatively easy care, it is a great choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. This piece measures approximately 7cm. This green morph is particularly striking, adding a lush pop of colour to any reef system.

These corals typically grow as encrusting plates or dome-shaped colonies made up of individual fleshy polyps. Each polyp has a distinct mouth and can expand considerably when happy, often showing intricate green patterns on its oral disc. Their slow, deliberate growth adds a foundational texture to the reef, making them a consistent feature in many aquariums.

Green Acan Lords thrive under moderate lighting, ideally around 50-150 PAR, and prefer moderate, indirect water flow to keep their polyps clean and prevent detritus accumulation. A good placement would be in the lower to mid-level of the aquarium, either on the sand bed or securely attached to rockwork. While they host zooxanthellae for their primary nutrition, they also benefit from supplemental feeding of fine meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week, especially when polyps are extended. Consistent water parameters are key: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Ensure ample spacing from other corals, as Acan Lords possess potent sweepers and can be aggressive, especially at night. Acclimation should be slow and gradual to minimise stress.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
