Description

The Green Convict Chalice is a classic Echinophyllia species, a type of large polyp stony coral known for its encrusting and plating growth forms. It's a familiar sight in established reef tanks, valued for its hardiness and straightforward care. This variant presents with a deep green base colouration.

As it grows, this chalice will first encrust the rock it's on, eventually lifting off to form a thin, spreading plate. The surface is textured, with small, raised corallites. The "Convict" name references the striped or patterned tissue immediately surrounding the coral's mouths, which here offers a subtle contrast to the overall solid green of the colony. It has sweeper tentacles that are typically extended at night.

In terms of care, the Green Convict Chalice does best in low to moderate lighting conditions, ideally within a 75-150 PAR range. Direct, intense light should be avoided. Water movement should be gentle and indirect, enough to keep the coral's surface clean without causing the flesh to pull back. Placement in the lower to mid-section of the aquarium is recommended. It is primarily photosynthetic but will respond well to occasional target feeding of meaty foods. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium at 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. It's important to provide several inches of space between it and other corals due to its potent sweeper tentacles.

In a home reef, a Convict Chalice is a great way to add interest and a splash of solid green to lower-light areas. Its encrusting nature allows it to cover rockwork in a natural way, and its slower growth rate makes it predictable and easy to manage over the long term compared to faster-growing species.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
