Description

Cynarina is a classic large-polyp stony coral, known in the hobby under names like Button Coral or Cat's Eye Coral. It is a solitary animal, meaning the entire coral consists of a single large polyp. This specimen displays the clear green colouration that makes these corals so distinctive against a tank's substrate.

The coral's tissue has a unique, translucent quality and can inflate with water to look like a fleshy, bubbled disc. This inflation can change over the course of a day, and it often reveals complex patterns on the surface. Underneath the fleshy mantle is a solid, circular skeleton. At night, a Cynarina may extend short feeding tentacles from the centre of the polyp.

For care in a home reef, a Cynarina should be placed on the sand bed or a low, flat rock, safely away from any strong, direct water flow. They prefer low to moderate lighting, generally in the 50-150 PAR range, as intense light can cause the tissue to retract or bleach. While it gets energy from its photosynthetic algae, it's also a very capable feeder that benefits from weekly offerings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized coral pellets. Maintain stable water parameters, especially calcium and alkalinity, and provide ample space for it to expand without touching neighboring corals.

The unique shape and behavior of Cynarina make it an interesting addition to an established system. It's a good fit for the sandbed of many LPS-focused tanks, providing a point of interest in a lower-energy area of the reef. Due to its peaceful nature, it coexists well with other corals as long as its physical space is respected.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
