Description
Description
Cyphastrea is an encrusting LPS coral that has become popular in the reef aquarium hobby for its vibrant color combinations and interesting growth form. It grows as a low-profile mat across the rockwork, adding color and a bumpy, irregular texture to the aquascape. For hobbyists looking to cover bare rock with a colorful and interesting coral, Cyphastrea is an excellent choice.
This species typically features a base color with differently colored polyps, creating a contrasting look. In this variety, the tissue is often a shade of green, and the corallites contain small polyps that are a bright gold or yellow. As it grows, it will follow the contours of the rock it is placed on, eventually creating a living skin over the surface. The polyps are usually only extended at night or during feeding.
For care, Cyphastrea prefers lower to moderate lighting conditions, in the range of 75 to 150 PAR. It should be placed on the rockwork in the lower to middle third of the tank where it has room to grow. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, as direct, strong flow can inhibit polyp extension and growth. This coral benefits from regular feeding. You can target feed or broadcast feed small foods like enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or powdered LPS foods a few times per week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. Cyphastrea is considered semi-aggressive and can extend short sweeper tentacles, so provide a few inches of space between it and other corals. Slow drip acclimation is recommended for a smooth transition into your aquarium.
Cyphastrea is a great way to add a layer of color and texture to your reef. Its encrusting nature means it won't shade out other corals as it grows, making it a complementary piece for a variety of mixed reef tanks.
This is a WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") item. The coral you will receive is the exact specimen shown in the product photo.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
