Description
Description
Goniastrea is a classic large polyp stony coral, often called a honeycomb coral for its distinct corallite structure. It's a member of the Merulinidae family, closely related to Favia. This hardy coral is an excellent choice for adding a solid, textured element to the reef aquarium. This particular piece shows a consistent deep green colouration.
In a home reef, Goniastrea grows in an encrusting or submassive form, gradually covering the rockwork it's placed on and developing a lumpy, boulder-like appearance. The corallites are polygonal and share common walls, which creates the honeycomb pattern it's known for. At night or when feeding, small polyps will extend from the center of each corallite. During the day, the surface has a fleshy, almost brain-like look, with the green tissue covering the entire colony.
For care, Goniastrea prefers moderate lighting levels, somewhere in the 100-200 PAR range. Place it in the lower to middle sections of the tank on a stable piece of rock where it has room to encrust. Water flow should be moderate—enough to keep the surface clear of detritus but not so strong that the tissue is blasted. While photosynthetic, it will benefit from occasional feedings of small meaty foods. Goniastrea has short sweeper tentacles, so provide a few inches of space to its neighbors. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm. Slow acclimation is recommended to help it adjust to new tank conditions.
The steady, encrusting growth of Goniastrea makes it a reliable coral for building out the aquascape. Its interesting texture and deep green colour provide a nice contrast to branching or plating corals. Over time, it will become a permanent, living part of your reef structure, growing with the contours of the rock.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
