Description
Heliofungia actiniformis, often called the plate coral, is a unique free-living LPS coral from the family Fungiidae. Unlike its relatives in the Cycloseris or Fungia genera, Heliofungia possesses long, flowing tentacles that resemble those of a sea anemone, which is how it earned the common name "long tentacle plate coral". This particular specimen presents with the classic deep green colouration typical of the species.
During the day, the Heliofungia coral extends its long tentacles, each tipped with a contrasting dot of colour, often white or cream. These tentacles can be quite long, creating a lot of movement in the water column as they sway. At night, or when disturbed, the tentacles retract completely into its skeletal base. It is a solitary, unattached coral that can move itself around the sandbed to a limited extent.
For care, Heliofungia corals require a soft substrate to rest on, as their fleshy underside is easily damaged by hard rockwork. They prefer low to moderate water flow and moderate lighting, with a PAR range of about 75-150. Direct, high-intensity light can cause bleaching. While photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. One important consideration is its potent sting; the long tentacles can damage or kill neighbouring corals, so it needs plenty of personal space.
The plate coral is a great addition to a mature reef with a deep enough sandbed. Its active movement adds a different kind of life to the lower levels of the tank. Just be sure to give it a wide berth and keep it away from pump intakes, as its ability to move on its own can sometimes lead it into trouble.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
