Green Heliofungia Plate Coral

Heliofungia plate corals, sometimes called Fungia or plate anemones, are distinctive LPS corals popular in reef aquariums for their large, single-polyp structure. They are a familiar sight on sandy bottoms in the Indo-Pacific, where they play a unique role in reef ecology. Their vibrant green coloration makes them a standout addition to many home aquariums. This piece measures approximately 12cm. These corals are characterised by a single, large polyp that rests unattached on the substrate. The oral disc is covered in numerous short, fleshy tentacles that are typically extended during the day, giving the coral an anemone-like appearance. The green colour is consistent across the entire polyp, creating a striking visual impact. At night, these tentacles become more active as the coral hunts for food. Heliofungia thrive under moderate lighting, ideally around 100-150 PAR. They prefer gentle, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on their surface without disturbing the delicate tentacles. Placement is crucial: they must be situated directly on a sandy substrate or a flat, stable rock surface to prevent damage to their skeleton. They are active nocturnal feeders and benefit from target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium at 400-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. While generally peaceful, ensure they have ample space as their sweepers can extend and sting nearby corals, particularly at night. Acclimate them slowly to new lighting and water conditions.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
