Description

Leptastrea corals are an interesting encrusting species that bring a unique texture and growth pattern to the home aquarium. These corals grow in a plating or encrusting fashion, covering rockwork with a field of small, distinct polyps. Their steady growth and manageable care requirements make them an appealing choice for hobbyists looking to add a hardy stony coral to their reef.

This coral is characterized by its tightly packed, circular polyps, called corallites, which give the colony a bumpy or textured appearance. In a Green Leptastrea, the tissue is typically a shade of green, which can vary in intensity based on lighting and water conditions. The polyps themselves may sometimes present a slightly different color from the surrounding tissue, adding to its visual appeal as it grows and spreads across the aquascape.

For best results, Leptastrea requires moderate care. It prefers lower to moderate lighting levels, with a PAR range of 75-150 being a good target. Place it on the rockwork in the lower to middle third of the tank. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, ensuring that detritus does not settle on its surface without blasting the polyps. Like other stony corals, it relies on stable water parameters, including Calcium around 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity between 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. Leptastrea is not particularly aggressive and has no long sweeper tentacles, but it should be given space to encrust without overgrowing neighboring corals. While photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional target or broadcast feeding of small particle foods like amino acids and specialized coral diets. Acclimate slowly to new water and lighting conditions.

The encrusting nature of Leptastrea adds a sense of maturity to a reef tank by creating a living landscape over the bare rock. Its unique texture and steady growth make it a rewarding species for aquarists who appreciate the way corals can actively shape their environment.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
