Description
Description
Montipora species are a cornerstone of the SPS world, found in a huge variety of shapes and colours. As a classic small-polyped stony coral, they are a great entry point into keeping SPS, offering faster growth rates than many Acropora species. This particular variety is a plating form with a rich green base and polyps.
This Montipora will grow as a thin, scrolling plate, often creating multiple overlapping whorls as it matures. The surface has a fine, almost velvety texture from its tiny polyps. The growth margins may develop a different colour over time, which is a common trait for plating species as they lay down new skeleton at the edges.
For care, Montipora corals appreciate stable conditions. Provide moderate to high lighting, somewhere in the 200 to 350 PAR range. Water flow should be strong but indirect, enough to keep the surface clean of any detritus without blasting the polyps directly. Placement in the mid to upper regions of the tank is usually ideal. While photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods. Maintain calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm. Give them plenty of space, as they will shade out and encroach on corals below them as they plate out.
A healthy plating Montipora is a rewarding sight in a home reef. Its distinctive shape offers a different dimension to the typical branching or encrusting forms of other corals. It can create interesting shaded areas underneath its plates where less light-demanding species might thrive. Just be mindful of its growth, as it can become a dominant feature in the aquascape.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
